Last week (6th April) was the first ever international Asexuality day…and includes both Grey sexuality and Demisexuality. I was explaining to a friend about Demisexuality and how I can only be attracted to people I have a connection with and how that could be a Man or a Woman or both.
It’s a difficult thing to try to explain even now writing this a week or so later. Demisexuality is a sexuality, we do not develop primary sexual attraction, the type of people we can be attracted to ( which is part of what people use to define sexuality ) in our case are people we feel connected to, because we feel we understand each other, or like Their personality, or Their intelligence. A Demisexual just has no ‘control’ as it were as to who that could be.
Now there’s something I want to raise, and not everyone is going to like or agree with what I say. There’s a lot of stuff on the internet about Demisexuality, that isn’t a real sexuality, or it’s just how everyone feels, that we’re just looking for attention, that we’re snowflakes etc. And I’ve dealt with that elsewhere. There’s something else. Not only do we have to deal with people denying our sexuality is real…we have people piggybacking Demisexuality which also treats Demisexuality as if it wasn’t a real sexuality. If you don’t develop primary sexual attraction and feel attraction to the same sex you are not a Gay/lesbian Demisexual…you are a Demisexual. DEMISEXUALITY IS A SEXUALITY IN AND OF ITSELF. If you don’t develop primary sexual attraction and feel attraction to both sexes you are not a Bisexual Demisexual…you are Demisexual. DEMISEXUALITY IS A SEXUALITY IN AND OF IT’SELF. If you don’t develop primary sexual attraction and feel attraction to the opposite sex you are not a Hetrosexual Demisexual you are a Demisexual. DEMISEXUALITY IS A SEXUALITY IN AND OF ITSELF. Indeed as Demisexuality falls under the Asexuality umbrella ( it puts the A in QIA after all ) you cannot claim to be hetro and Demi at all.
